"if purposeful activity wasn’t connected to paid employment and access to goods and services was public, unemployment would cease to be a problem."
This line stuck out to me among many as particularly relevant, and something I'm frustrated that most people embedded in capitalism seem to take for granted. Unemployment becomes equivalent to being without purpose, when in fact, if we measure ourselves not by quantitative market banks, it is the opportunity to create our own life's meaning and purpose. The catch is you need to have a supportive social environment and community to validate your work, which many don't have, and it takes heroic amounts of personal effort to create -- speaking from experience as a longtime, often unpaid creative writer.
